About The Practice

Kara’s solo practice was born of a dream…ok that’s not the whole story. Real talk? Kara views late-stage capitalism as a plague and understands that one of the main contributors to stress and mental health concerns is financial stress and poverty. Kara is constantly trying to balance providing quality care that is accessible financially, but that also allows her to put food on the table for her own household. In an ideal world, therapists would be paid what we are worth, and that our income would be provided by Universal Health Coverage or Medicare-for-All. Unless and until that becomes a reality, Kara accepts some insurance as well as out-of-pocket payments. She also offers superbills for folks who have Out-of-Network (OON) benefits through their insurance. If you are interested in working with Kara but cannot afford to do so, please inquire and we can discuss payment plans etc.

About Kara Katz, LICSW CST

As a liberal, “woke” person, Kara embraces the “radical” views that reproductive rights are non-negotiable; LGBTQ+ rights are human rights; bodily autonomy is essential; healthcare should be free; every person deserves to be housed; disability inclusion should be considered at every level; white people can (and should!) work to end abuses of BIPOC+ people; rest is essential; and food is a right, not a privilege. Kara knows that therapy can be a radical act in and of itself, and that therapy is political. In her free time, she enjoys subverting the patriarchy and eschewing capitalism as much as she can. She also enjoys dancing, embroidery, knitting, gardening, composting, and reading. Feel free to ask what is on her current TBR (To-Be-Read) list!

  • Kara earned a BS in Health Psychology from MCPHS University. Following that, she earned a BS in Nursing from Regis College. She practiced as an RN for over 10 years, and then earned her Masters in Social Work from Simmons University. Kara also earned a post-graduate certificate in Sex, Culture, and Society from the University of Amsterdam. Her 10 year plan includes continuing to further her education in both official and unofficial ways.

  • Although Kara has not practiced as an RN in years, her license remains valid. She has an LICSW license. Both licenses are issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - as such, she can only legally practice in Massachusetts. Kara is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST).
